Panama Fishing and Catching Interview

By Interviewer at 05/27/07 16:07

Name of your website?

Panama Fishing and Catching

Your name?

Capt. Tony Herndon

Your Location (city, etc)

Panama

When did you start your website and why?

Put up my fishing website in 2000 and redid it in 2003 to see if it would bring more business

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Fishing guide Website presenting the accessible recreational fishing opportunities in the Republic of Panama. Exhibits maps and charts of Panama and select fishing areas. Includes descriptions of specific game fish available and in which areas, their habitat, behavior, life cycle and how to fish for them. Contains select histories of the Panama Canal, Spanish conquests and Indigenous cultures of Panama.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Learning and writting html and how to get my site best ranked on the search engines

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

I am able to refer client to the website so they can read and learn at their convenience about the game fish here in Panama and how to fish for them. Also through emails instead of via long distance phone calls.

What was your biggest mistake?

Trying to put those stupid keywords into the text of the website.

Who maintains your website and why?

I do everything myself for two reasons- I am on a shoestring budget (too many kids to raise) and finding anyone reliable to do anything here in Panama is difficult to say the least.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

A marked increase in quality clients!

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I think it will continue to grow and improve.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

I hate it - it is so difficult and takes so much time!

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

They are great and really help to get theword out but you have to be listed near the top of your field.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Links and word of mouth

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

advertizing with any website that charges $$$ for a listing or promises traffic. You get bad quality traffic and almost no clients.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

faster and cheaper connections

If you didn't have the $$ to send your kids to college how else could you teach them to earn a living?

From age 6 teach them to kick field goals so by the time they are 18 they are kickingin the NFL for big bucks. Or teach theem to build computers from components and how to build websites with good rankings!

What is your website address?

Panama Fishing and Catching
