The sporting industry has become a very lucrative one (tickets and advertisers) that the stakes of winning a title became huge. We are talking about millions of dollars here in prize money, not to mention many commercial endorsements.
This is why team owners have been investing wildly and doing everything to ensure his/her team's success. This includes the jerseys they will be wearing. Nowadays, they don't just have to be stylish. They also have to be technologically advanced as well, giving leverage to their wearers.
